About ALN Made Simple.

Turning complexity into clarity for the people who make inclusion happen.

Every day, schools across Wales work hard to understand and support learners with Additional Learning Needs (ALN). What's often missing is time—and simple, consistent tools that keep things person-centred without feeling heavy.

Steve Campbell — Local Authority ALN Advisory Teacher

My story.

Hi, I'm Steve Campbell.

I've spent over 25 years working in Welsh education across mainstream and specialist settings. I'm currently a Local Authority ALN Advisory Teacher, supporting schools to identify need, plan support, and meet the needs of learners with complex profiles.

For five years, I also worked as Assistant Manager for ALN Transformation, collaborating with local, regional and Welsh Government teams—alongside colleagues in education, health and social care—to help shape and embed implementation of the ALN Act and Code for Wales.

Over the years, I've seen the same challenge play out in different ways: staff care deeply and work tirelessly, good practice exists, but the system can feel complex, fragmented, and paperwork-heavy.

That's the gap ALN Made Simple is built to fill.

My aim is straightforward: to make the ALN process easier to understand, easier to deliver, and easier to sustain—without lowering the professional standard.

I built ALN Made Simple because I wanted schools to feel more confident, more consistent, and less alone in this work.

Founder's promise.

What you can expect from me.

I'll keep ALN Made Simple practical, person-centred, and aligned with the ALN Code for Wales (2021).

I won't add complexity for the sake of it—and I won't oversimplify to the point it stops being useful.

Everything is built to save time, reduce friction, and help staff feel confident supporting learners.

What I believe.

Inclusion works best when staff feel confident, not judged.

A few calm systems and shared language can transform how a school supports learners—without adding more to everyone's plate.

I focus on tools that reduce friction, protect staff time, and keep the learner at the centre.

You might be here if…

  • You're spending too long rewriting IDPs (or fixing them after the fact).
  • Support has drifted into "TA shadowing" rather than true inclusive practice.
  • You want a clear way to gather person-centred information that doesn't rely on memory or rushed meetings.

Why ALN Made Simple exists.

ALN work should feel like this:

  • Person-centred: the learner's voice isn't an afterthought.
  • Structured: staff know what to do next.
  • Consistent: the approach doesn't change depending on who's on duty.
  • Practical: the tools help today, not "when we've got time".
